Short and Sweet Art Bio and Resume of Nancy Freeman |
I have been looking for time to paint my entire life—and I have had several periods when I was able to paint. 1974-76 Palo Alto , California My formal training was in California where I was able to take classes with some wonderful artists including drawing (mostly nude figures) with Mike Cooper, oil painting with Gifford Nicolaides and watercolor with Judy Holland. Both Nicolaides and Holland emphasized color rather than value, and color was my love and inspiration. 1994-96 Sedona, Arizona I updated my watercolor skills with classes with several local artists. The red rocks seemed to dictate this medium with its potential for color and luminosity. I also began a series of orchids and hummingbirds, which I continue to experiment and develop. 2001-2003 Tucson, Arizona I participated in the open studio at the Drawing Studio. Because of my experience of nude drawing with Cooper, I was able to jump right in and produce some expressionistic renderings to begin to develop my own style. I filled a large sketchbook with drawings in pen and ink and also a dozen large canvases in oil. I also experimented with flowers in oil the style of Georgia O'Keefe. 2010-2011 Green Valley , Arizona In my most recent phase, I have taken a couple of classes at the Drawing Studio to jump start my art career. My current interest is to paint desert landscapes and portraits of desert plants.
My Canon Powershot is a terrible camera for taking photos of art—but eventually I shall overcome (or find a new camera) will have photos of all periods on this page. |
